- 1. Requirements

-Dokeos is a web application which requires some other software to function:
-a web server, PHP, and the MySQL database server. These software packages
-have to be installed on the computer where you will install Dokeos. 
-
-You can install all these software packages separately, which often gives
-the best results. However, beginning users who want to test Dokeos can use
-a combination package that installs all these software packages in one
-simple install. If you want to use a combination package, we recommend
-Wamp (you also need the PHP4 add-on for WAMP) or XAMP.

-The Apache web server is recommended, and Dokeos is configured to use some
-Apache security enhancements if possible. However, other web servers will
-work too. For best security results, you need to have the Apache module
-mod_rewrite activated. The mod_rewrite rules for Dokeos are read from a
-.htaccess file in the courses folder, so Apache needs to allow this
-(AllowOverride FileInfo in httpd.conf).

-You need PHP version 4.3.2 or later (4.x versions), configured with the
-following modules : mysql, zlib, preg, xml. PHP versions 5 or later are not
-supported by Dokes yet. You need the ldap module too if you want to use ldap
-with Dokeos. Most of the PHP4 compiled distributions are provided with these
-modules. Their presence is also checked by the Dokeos install script.

-if the (dokeos folder)/main/install folder is still accessible,

-Since after version 1.5.5, the following tables in the dokeos_main database can be removed when upgrading from a 1.5.5 version or lower, provided that you don't use them for a customisation of your Dokeos system:

-A clean-up of the useless fields has also influenced some code: The main_db.cours.cours_id has been removed, as all references to that field throughout the official Dokeos code. The course code (literal) is used instead. Please update your custom code if any.

+    <p>Dokeos ist eine Web Applikation, die einige andere Software ben�igt:</p>

+      Anwender mit weniger Kenntnissen, die Dokeos testen wollen, ein <i>kombiniertes Paket</i> benutzen; wir empfehlen 
+      Wamp (Download von <a href="http://www.wampserver.com/en/index.php">The WAMP5 Website</a>, zus�zlich ben�igt man

+    <h3>1.1. Webserver</h3>
+    <p> Der Apache Webserver wird empfohlen, und Dokeos ist so konfiguriert, da�einige 
+      der Apache Erweiterungen benutzt werden, falls vorhanden. Andere Webserver sind aber 
+      m�lich. Die besten Ergebnisse fr Sicherheit erreicht man, wenn das Apache Modul mod_rewrite 
+      aktiviert ist. Die mod_reqrite Regeln fr Dokeos werden aus einer .htaccess Datei im Kursverzeichnis 
+      gelesen, daher mu�Apache dies gestatten (AllowOverride FileInfo in httpd.conf). <br>
+      <br>

+    <h3>1.2. PHP</h3>
+    <p>PHP Version 4.3.2 oder sp�er (4.x Versionen) sind notwendig, und die folgenden Module mssen 
+      konfiguriert sein: mysql, zlib, preg, xml. PHP Version 5 oder sp�er wird bislang von Dokeos noch 
+      nicht untersttzt.
+      Falls Ldap mit Dokeos benutzt werden soll, mu�auch das ldap Modul eingebunden sein. 
+      Die meisten der kompilierten PHP4 Distributionen enthalten diese Module.
+      Dokeos prft bei der Installation, ob diese vorhanden sind.<br>

+    <p> Einige Benutzer k�nten Probleme haben, wenn PHP folgende Einstellungen nicht hat:</p>

+    <p> �tere Dokeos Versionsn erforderten Past register_globals = on. Dies ist nicht mehr l�ger 
+      erforderlich, auch bei off wird Dokeos korrekt laufen.</p>
+    <p><strong>BSD Benutzer:</strong> Die nachfolgenden Bibliotheken mssen w�rend der PHP Installation 
+      eingebunden werden:</p>
+    <ul>
+      <li>php-mysql Die mySQL Erweiterung fr PHP</li>
+      <li>php-pcre Die pcre Erweiterung fr PHP</li>
+      <li>php-session Die session Erweiterung fr PHP</li>
+      <li>php-zlib Die zlib Erweiterung fr PHP</li>
+      <li>php-xml</li>
+      <li>(optional) php-ldap falls die LDAP Authentifizierung benutzt werden soll</li>
+    </ul>
+    <h3>1.3. Der MySQL Datenbankserver</h3>
+    <p>Sie ben�igen ein Login und Passwort, mit dem Sie den Server administrieren oder zumindest eine Datenbank 
+      anlegen k�nen. Per Default legt Dokeos fr jeden Kurs eine neue Datenbank an; was bedeutet, da�Ihr 
+      Provider Ihnen gestatten sollte, mehrere Datenbanken anzulegen und zu administrieren. Die k�nen Dokeos auch 
+      installieren mit der Option, nur eine Datenbank zu verwenden, diese Option mssen Sie dann w�rend der 
+      Intallation ausw�len. <br>
+      <br>

+    <p> <b>Bitte beachten:</b><br>
+      Es scheint, als wrden ` Zeichen, die in SQL Abfragen eingefgtsind, nicht 
+      mit �teren MySQL Versionen (�ter als 3.23.6) nicht funktionieren.</p>
+    <h3>1.4. Erlaubnisse</h3>
+    <p> Weiterhin ben�igt das Serververzeichnis, in das Sie Dokeos entpackt haben "Write" Rechte. Auf einem lokalen 
+      Windows Rechner ist das kein Problem. Auf einem remote Server mssen Sie die Rechte vergeben k�nen durch CHMOD 
+      per FTP, Telnet o.� </p>

+    <h2>2. Installation einer neuen Dokeos Version</h2>
+    <p> 2.1. Download des Dokeos 1.6.1 Installationspakets (.zip fr Windows Benutzer oder  .tar.gz fr alle anderen) 
+      von der <a href="http://www.dokeos.com/download.php">Dokeos download</a> Seite. </p>
+    <p> 2.2. Unzip oder untar das heruntergeladene Paket. 
+      Die meisten neueren Betriebssysteme k�nen dies mittels einer integrierten Software, falls das nicht geht, 
+      �fnen Sie die Kommandozeile, gehen zum Download Verzeichnis und geben ein: 
+      tar -zxvf dokeos-1.6.1.beta.tar.gz </p>
+    <p>2.3. Inhalt des Dokeos Installationspakets auf Ihre Website auf dem Webserver hochladen 
+      (z.B. per FTP, SCP, Datei kopieren), entweder in das webroot Verzeichnis oder ein Unterverzeichnis. Der 
+      Webserver kann auch ihr lokaler Computer sein.  Vergewissern Sie sich, da�alle Verzeichnisse angelegt 
+      werden (archive, home, claroline, courses) und alle php Dateien kopiert wurden. </p>
+    <p>Fr Windows Benutzer, die Dokeos loakl installieren: Falls Sie ein 
+      Apache/PHP/MySQL Paket benutzen, kopieren Sie den Inhalt des Dokeos Pakets einfach in das Web Verzeichnis

+    <p> <strong>2.8. Konfiguration und Sicherheit nach der Installation</strong> </p>

+      <li><strong>Schtzen Sie ihre Konfigurationsdatei: </strong> Vergewissern Sie sich, da�niemand die Datei berschreiben kann. Die Konfigurationsdatei befindet sich hier: <em>(Dokeos Verzeichnis)</em>/main/inc/conf/configuration.php.
+        Die Datei sollte nur lesbar sein (Windows/XWindows: rechts Klick auf die Datei und die Eigenschaften anpassen. 
+        linux/bsd/macosx: den chmod 444 Befehl benutzen). Die Konfigurationsdatei wird von Apache erstellt, daher mssen Sie 
+        eventuell ein "root" Benutzer sein, um die Erlaubnisse zu ver�dern.</li>
+      <li><strong>Installationsverzeichnis schtzen: </strong> falls das <em>(Dokeos Verzeichnis)</em>/main/install Verzeichnis weiterhin erreichbar ist, k�nte 
+        jemand ber Ihre vorhandene Installation neu installieren (Sie k�nten Daten verlieren). Verschieben Sie 
+        das Verzeichnis ausserhalb der Webverzeichnisse, wo es nicht mehr fr einen Browser erreichbar ist, �dern Sie 
+        den Verzeichnisnamen, oder bearbeiten Sie die Eigenschaften, damit niemand das Verzeichnis lesen oder Dateien 
+        darin ausfhren kann. </li>
+      <li><strong>Verbesserte Sicherheit: </strong> Die Dateien fr alle lesbar machen, erleichtert die Installation und hilft bei Problemen fr 
+        die, welche keine Adminsitrator Erfahrung haben. Es ist aber sicherer, den Eigentmer des Apache Prozesses 
+        (oft als apache oder www-data bezeichnet) auch zum Eigentmer aller Dokeos Verzeichnisse und Dateien zu 
+        machen. So brauchen diese Dateien lediglich fr den Apache Prozess readable und writeable zu sein, nicht aber 
+        fr alle.</li>
+      <li><strong>Ihre Dokeos Installation konfigurieren: </strong> In der Administration von Dokeos, k�nen Sie die Dokeos Konfiguration benutzen, um das Verhalten Ihrer Dokeos 
+        Installation anzupassen.</li>
+      <li><strong>Dokeos Mail konfigurieren: </strong> Dokeos benutzt zumeist die Mail Einstellungen aus der php.ini Datei. Das Modul "Ankndigungen" benutzt 
+        phpMailer (ein anderes freies Software Projekt) und die Einstellungen fr dieses Werkzeug k�nen angepa� werden 
+        in der <em>(Dokeos Verzeichnis)</em>/main/inc/conf/mail.conf.php Datei.</li>
+    </ul>

+    <h2>3. Upgrade von einer �teren Dokeos Version</h2>
+    <p> Vor einem Upgrade empfehlen wir, da�Sie unbedingt ein vollst�diges Backup der vorigen Dokeos Verzeichnisse und 
+      Datenbanken durchfhren. Sollten Sie sich nicht sicher sein, wie man das erreicht, erkundigen Sie sich bei Ihrem 
+      Provider nach Hilfestellung.
+      
+      Falls Sie ein Upgrade von Dokeos 1.6 durchfhren, k�nen Sie einfach die neuen Dateien von 1.6.1 ber die Dateien der vorigen Version kopieren. Falls Sie ein Upgrade von einer �teren Version durchfhren (1.5.x), mssen Sie die integrierte Upgrade 
+      Funktion benutzen (Anleitungen weiter unten). </p>
